Nostalgia, a sentimental longing for the past, increases well-being, especially in response to psychological imbalance (e.g., negative affect, loneliness). Recent work has examined how nostalgia for times shared with a romantic partner (i.e., relationship nostalgia) also has positive effects. The two present studies, both conducted with Amazon Mechanical Turk samples, explored whether relationship nostalgia buffers the negative effect of partner conflict on relationship commitment. In Study 1 (N = 137), results of a moderated regression analysis showed that the negative link between conflict and commitment was offset by participants’ higher relationship nostalgia proneness. Study 2 (N = 769) built on these correlational findings with an experimental design. Specifically, for participants randomly assigned to a relationship nostalgia writing condition, the negative link between conflict and commitment was weaker than it was for participants who wrote about a positive or ordinary past event. These studies demonstrate the potential for relationship nostalgia to maintain commitment in response to the threat of partner conflict.

The revisit intention of tourists is an important guarantee for the sustainable and healthy development of tourism destination, and has also received attention from the current academic community. However, there is still insufficient research on the antecedents of revisit intention from the perspectives of tourism destination, image and nostalgia emotion. This study takes China’s ecological tourism scenic area (Guilin Lijiang Scenic Area) as a case study, and uses questionnaire survey method to obtain research data for empirical research. The results of this study confirm that tourism destination image has a positive impact on nostalgia emotions and local attachment, nostalgia emotion has a positive impact on local attachment, and local attachment has a positive impact on revisit intention. Perceived risk plays a negative moderating effect between local attachment and revisit intention. In addition, this study also examined the mediating effect of nostalgia emotion and local attachment. This study is beneficial for enriching the theory of the influence mechanism of revisit intention from the perspective of consumer psychology. It is an interdisciplinary research result of management and psychology, providing theoretical reference for improving revisit intention in tourism destinations and promoting their healthy development.

By exploring its methodological challenges, cultural biases, potential for oversimplification of complex human behaviors and its deterministic approach to human development, and from the perspective of positive psychology, this critique aims to present a balanced view that acknowledges both the contributions and limitations of attachment theory in the broader landscape of psychological understanding. This critical examination serves as an invitation for continued discourse, fostering the evolution and refinement of attachment theories in the ever-evolving landscape of psychological research and understanding. From a positive psychology perspective, the critique of attachment theory revolves around its potential underestimation of human resilience, adaptability, and the capacity for positive development despite early challenges. By incorporating the strengths and positive adaptation mechanisms that individuals display, particularly in diverse cultural contexts, a more holistic understanding of human development emerges. This approach aligns with the positive psychology's emphasis on growth, resilience, and the potential for flourishing across the lifespan, providing a more comprehensive and optimistic view of human relationships and emotional well-being. To a greater extent, integrating positive psychology principles with attachment theory could lead to a more comprehensive and holistic understanding of human development and relationships.
