Zararlı böcekler ve hastalık etmenleri fındığın depolanması sırasında önemli ekonomik kayıplara neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışma fındığın depolanması sırasında görülen zararlıların ve hastalık etmenlerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla, Düzce il merkezi ve ilçelerinden 49 depodan fındık örnekleri alınmış ve laboratuvarda incelenmiştir. İncelenen örneklerin %51.02'sinde (25 örnekte) böceklerden kaynaklı zarar tespit edilmiştir. Bu örneklerde Curculio nucum, Plodia interpunctella ve Rhyzopertha dominica zararı tespit edilmiştir. Böcek yoğunluğu ise 0-6.67 (%) arasında değişiklik göstermiştir. İncelenen örneklerin % 97.96'sında (48 örnekte) ise fungal hastalık etmenlerine rastlanmıştır. Fungal patojenlerden kaynaklı hastalık şiddeti (çürüklük oranı) ise 5.56-20.67 (%) arasında değişiklik göstermiştir. İç çürüklüğe neden olan fungal etmenler, Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp., Chaetomium sp., ve Trichothecium sp. olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışma neticesinde fındıkta zarar oluşturan ve çürüklüğe neden olan önemli zararlı ve fungal etmenler belirlenmiştir. Fındığın zararlı ve hastalıklardan korunması fındığın ekonomik değeri açısından oldukça önem taşımaktadır.

Trichome-mediated defence in wild and cultivated tomato cultivars has been extensively studied against some mite species for several decades. Previous studies have shown that this mechanism negatively affects phytophagous mites and their predators. To better explain the tritrophic relationship of tomatoes, the interactions between population densities of the tomato rust mite, Aculops lycopersici (Massee) (Acari: Eriophyidae), and its predators on the tomato cultivars, namely, Dora, Etna, Grande, H2274, Jana and M1103, and the trichome densities of these cultivars were investigated in both a climatic room and an organic tomato field from 2014-2015. Under both controlled and field conditions, the A. lycopersici population density was significantly higher in the stake tomato cultivars, Jana and Etna, than in other tomato cultivars. When the tomato rust mite’s population density was the highest during mid-August and mid-September in the tomato field, the population density of the predator species, Tydeus kochi Oudemans (Tydeidae), showed a similar population pattern and significant positive correlation with the A. lycopersici density. However, density of this predator mite was significantly lower than that of A. lycopersici over the entire season. Remarkably, the glandular trichome type VI density was significantly higher in the stake cultivars than other cultivars. In contrast, significantly fewer glandular trichomes were found in the indeterminate tomato cultivars, Grande and H2274, which had fewer tomato rust mites and larger tydeid mite predator densities. These results support the hypothesis that trichomes provide excellent shelter for tomato rust mites and are obstacles for its predator mites. However, the population density of the insect predator, Macrolophus sp., was not affected by the trichome density or tomato cultivar, but its population density was not significantly correlated with that of the A. lycopersici population.

This study aims to investigate the potential use of propylene oxide (PPO) for rapid control of the fig moth, Ephestia cautella (Walker, 1863) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). To this end, the biological efficacy of PPO (10 µl/l) against all biological stages of the fig moth was evaluated for a short exposure period (4 hours) under three different conditions: PPO alone (normal pressure), PPO+vacuum (100 mm Hg low pressure), and PPO+CO2 (92% CO2 concentration) in the absence and presence of dried figs and hazelnuts. In the absence of commodities, the biological tests showed 100% mortality rates in all biological stages of E. cautella, except for the pupa stage, when using the PPO+vacuum treatment. However, the PPO alone and PPO+CO2 treatments did not achieve a 100% mortality rate for the biological stages of E. cautella. Conversely, in the presence of dried figs, the mortality rates for all biological stages of E. cautella ranged from 19.7% to 100% in the PPO+vacuum and PPO+CO2 treatments. As for the shelled hazelnuts, all PPO treatments resulted in low mortality rates ranging from 0.7% to 10.6% with PPO+vacuum and PPO+CO2 treatments. In conclusion, the study suggests that the PPO+vacuum treatment can have a viable potential for rapid insect control, particularly in dried figs, making it suitable for quarantine applications.
