Inpainting for Saturation Artifacts in Optical Coherence Tomography Using Dictionary-Based Sparse Representation

Abstract: Saturation artifacts in optical coherence tomography (OCT) occur when received signal exceeds the dynamic range of spectrometer. Saturation artifact shows a streaking pattern and could impact the quality of OCT images, leading to inaccurate medical diagnosis. In this paper, we automatically localize saturation artifacts and propose an artifact correction method via inpainting. We adopt a dictionary-based sparse representation scheme for inpainting. Experimental results demonstrate that, in both case of synthet… Show more

“…If the image has a higher PSNR value, then the quality of the compressed or reconstructed image is better. It is expressed in Equation 12 used to evaluate the MIC-DWT-CNN compression method, where maxpixel denotes the highest possible pixel value of the image matrix (Liu H. et al, 2021). We experimented with the MIC-DWT-CNN method on the medical images and demonstrated its improved image compression efficiency.…”

“…12 Liu et al proposed a dictionary-based sparse representation method recently for saturation artifacts removal in OCT images. 13 While their method works very well with saturation artifacts narrower than the patch width, it appears to be less effective when large areas of shadow are presented.…”
