Inositolphosphate glycans and a fucosylated xyloglucan oligosaccharide are accumulated upon Arabidopsis thaliana/ Botrytis cinerea infection

Abstract: In mammals, insulin is involved in controlling blood glucose levels and its role in modulating immunity is being more and more documented. This hormone promotes the release of inositolphosphate glycans (IPG) which act as mediators. In plants, one IG has already been identified in plant culture cells (Smith and Fry, 1999; Smith et al., 1999) but, to our knowledge, no IPG have been yet identified. Here, we discovered 7 IPG that are accumulated upon Arabidopsis thaliana-Botrytis cinerea interaction, concomitantly… Show more

“…3). The main peaks in the mass spectra of CWEs from Col-0 and fer-4 represented mannose-glucuronic acid-inositol-P [massto-charge ratio (m/z) = 597.107], presumably originating from the hydrolysis of polar heads of glycosyl inositol phosphoryl ceramide lipids (34), along with uronic acid-(hexose) 2 -(pentose) 2 (m/z = 781.225) and uronic acid-(hexose) 2 -(pentose) 3 (m/z = 913.267), potentially originating from rhamnogalacturonan I (Fig. 3A, upper trace).…”

“…The number of inositol phosphates with regulatory properties ranges from inositol trisphosphate to inositol pyrophosphates [1][2][3][4][5], and you may ask yourself how many regulatory inositol phosphates need a living cell. Apart from this class of inositol phosphates, inositol is a component of cell surface glycans [6]. Bacteria synthesize di-inositol phosphates using CDP-inositol for the synthesis [7].…”
