Aim. The aim of this study is to add polylysine (PLS) particles to two different types of self-adhesive resin cement (RelyXU200 and Breeze) and to characterize them before and after PLS incorporation. Materials and Methods. Four PLS concentrations (0.2%, 1%, 2%, and 5%) were selected for incorporation into two self-adhesive resin cements (RelyXU200 and Breeze), thus the groups of this study include one control group and four experimental groups for each cement type. Different characterization tests were performed including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), degree of conversion (DC), compressive strength (CS), and ISO tests 4049-2019 that include: film thickness, setting time, water sorption (WS), and solubility (SL). The statistical procedure used includes analysis of variance test (ANOVA) and multiple pairwise comparisons Tukey post hoc test which was used for multifactorial analysis. Results. FTIR showed that PLS addition did not change the functional groups’ peaks for either cement type indicating that no chemical reaction with and/or alteration within the cement has occurred. In general, PLS addition increased the water sorption, solubility, and film thickness, it also increased the setting time for Breeze while decreasing it for RelyXU200 and all these parameters were within 4049-2019 ISO Specification. Statistically, PLS addition did not significantly change these properties compared to the control groups except for 5% PLS. Similarly, the degree of conversion and compressive strength was slightly reduced with no significant difference to the control cement groups except for 5% PLS concentration. Conclusions. Newly developed PLS incorporated self-adhesive resin cement exhibited remarkable mechanical and physical properties compared to control self-adhesive resin cement and passed the ISO standardization. PLS-incorporated resin cement with less than 5% have no negative impact on the physical and mechanical properties of the studied cement.

In many applications, it is desirable for photocured adhesives to have high‐mechanical strength in the cured state, but relatively low viscosity when liquid. This was achieved by adding less than 0.5 wt% hydroxyapatite and graphene to methyl methacrylate with diurethane dimethacrylate (UDMA‐MMA). Nanoindentation shows hardness increasing by 30–40% and indentation modulus by >30% compared to UDMA‐MMA on its own. Rheometry shows only a small increase in uncured viscosity for the liquid state. The additives affect the optical properties, mobility of free radicals, photocuring, and degree of conversion, the effects of which are seen in Fourier transform infrared and micro‐Raman spectra. Thermographic images taken during curing show that the additives impact the photocuring process. In addition, changes in intermolecular bonding are seen in the vibrational spectra when the additives are present. The enhanced mechanical properties are attributed to the observed changes in photocuring and bonding.

In cable sheath applications, plasticizer migration is important as it causes reduction in mechanical properties, deterioration, and pollution in transported environments. This study focuses on the effect of inorganic fillers on the diffusion of plasticizers from plasticized‐PVC cable films. Plastisols were prepared by mixing plasticizer, thermal stabilizers, and inorganic fillers (boric acid, boron clay, sintered calcined boron waste clay, talc, and zircon oxide) into the PVC resin. Plastigel films were cured and thermally aged at 100, 130, and 160°C. Oxidation index were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The diffusion coefficient and activation energies were calculated from mass loss. Thermogravimetric analysis analyses were performed to obtain weight loss. Fillers were characterized for their zeta potential, particle size distribution, polydispersion. Morphology of the fillers was also conducted using scanning electron microscopy. Their mechanical and rheological analyses were evaluated with the tensile and melt flow index test. The order of diffusivity was determined as the films having boric acid > undoped > talc = sintered boron clay > zircon > boron clay. The result of this evaluations is the addition of inorganic filler increases the mechanical and thermal applicability and reduces the plasticizer diffusion. It is thought that the results, will contribute to the studies on the plasticizer transition in cable applications.
