Background Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a scarring alopecia in which the exact etiopathogenesis has not been completely elucidated and the available treatments are not very effective. Plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) has shown to induce folliculogenesis in hair loss related disorders. However, the scientific evidence when facing FFA is scarce. Objectives The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the adjuvant use of PRGF compared to the conventional treatment in the management of FFA. Methods Participants with clinically diagnosed FFA who had been treated with either conventional therapy (Control Group) or conventional therapy combined with PRGF (PRGF Group) were identified from the center’s medical records. The clinical assessment was based on the “Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia Severity Score” (FFASS), which was fulfilled during a period of two and 4 years. Results This study included 118 patients with clinically diagnosed FFA (Control Group: 57 and PRGF Group: 61). No adverse effects related to the treatments were observed. Both treatments showed to halt the steady progression of hair loss compared to baseline. PRGF treatment also induced significant hair regrowth compared to the Control Group. The scalp inflammation was reduced in response to treatments. The FFASS score indicated that PRGF Group improved the symptoms and severity of FFA in a significant manner. Conclusions The adjuvant use of PRGF may exert long-term beneficial effects on hair loss reduction and might reduce the symptoms and severity of FFA.

As the third-generation platelet concentrate product, concentrated growth factors exhibit good promotion to the repair and regeneration of soft and hard tissues, and has gradually attracted attention in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery. The purpose of this review is to summarize the application and research of CGF in the field of facial rejuvenation and plastic surgery. A comprehensive review of the literatures about the applications of CGF in facial rejuvenation and plastic surgery were conducted in PubMed, OVID Medline and Web of Science. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 22 articles were included in this review. In recent years, CGF has been applied in many aspects in the field of facial rejuvenation and plastic surgery, including skin photoaging, repairment of soft tissue defects, rhinoplasty, hair loss, autologous fat transplantation and scars. And there are no significant adverse reactions have been reported as so far. CGF is rich in high-concentration growth factors, which has great potential and application prospects in facial rejuvenation and plastic surgery. However, the applications of CGF still have some problems, such as the mechanism, the time of decomposition, the long-term efficacy and safety, which are needed to be resolved in future.

Cicatricial alopecias (CA) is a term for a group of subtypes of hair loss in which the hair follicle is destroyed by an unknown inflammatory mechanism. 1,2 Clinically, CA results in loss of the follicular ostia. 1,3 There are three main groups of CA that are grouped based on the perifollicular inflammatory response: primary neutrophilic, primary lymphocytic, or mixed subtypes. 2 Table 1 displays the inflammatory category in which each subtype belongs. The goal of treatment is to stop the ongoing inflammation through a combination of topical or intralesional corticosteroids, antimalarials, immunosuppressants, and antimicrobials, although a number of other medications, lasers, and other therapies have been trialed in refractory cases. 4 Alopecia can have profound psychosocial ramifications and negatively affect a patient's quality of life and self-esteem. 5,6 Even with treatment, patients usually do not experience hair regrowth. 4 Thus, it is important to counsel patients that the goal of treatment is to stop the ongoing inflammation and prevent further hair loss. This conversation must be undertaken delicately as this can be an incredibly difficult conversion for the patient. However, there have been reports in the literature of hair regrowth following treatment of CA. Thus, the aim of this review is to describe the cases of hair regrowth in CA in the published literature. | ME THODSA primary literature search was completed in August 2020 using the keywords "regrowth", "growth", and "name of each subtype of cicatricial alopecia" (e.g., "frontal fibrosing alopecia" or "lichen planopilaris").The databases searched included: PubMed, Cochrane, and Google Scholar. The subtypes of CA that were included in this search were: lichen planopilaris (LPP), frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA), Graham-Little Syndrome (GLS), central centrifugal CA (CCCA), discoid lupus erythematous (DLE), follicular mucinosis (FM), keratosis follicularis spinulosa decalvans (KFSD), pseudopelade of Brocq, dissecting cellulitis of the scalp (DCS), folliculitis decalvans (FD), acne keloidalis (AK), acne necrotica (AN), and erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp (EPDS).Eligibility was determined upon review of the article to determine whether they reported documented, either written or photographed, report of hair regrowth. References from each study were assessed to determine if any fit inclusion criteria. Only studies published in English were included.
