Innovative triboluminescence study of multivitamin doped europium tetrakis

Abstract: As the Space Shuttle program ends, NASA is developing the next generation of space vehicles. These new concept designs will require new and innovative structural health monitoring capabilities. One way to solve this problem is with smart impact sensors that use triboluminescent materials. In 2011, the authors reported an 82% increase in the triboluminescence yield of europium dibenzoylmethide triethylammonium (EuD4TEA) by changing the starting material. It has been shown that introduction of dopants tends to e… Show more

“…49 Given that EuD 4 TEA was reported to exhibit extremely brilliant TL up to 206% of that of ZnS:Mn when subjected to low-energy impacts, many EuD 4 TEA derivatives were prepared to seek more TL compounds. 50 The structural modification was focused on coordination with different ligands of b-diketone and aromatic amine or the utilization of different counter ions. These strategies can alter the chelate structure, thus resulting in a change in the molecule packing arrangement in the crystal.…”

“…The solvent has an impact on the int sity of triboluminescence and decay time of EuD4TEA [21]. Additionally, it was found t replacing anhydrous ethanol with laboratory ethanol has no impact on the TL results [2 Moreover, doping EuD4TEA complex with organic substances such as piperi DMMP, TEPS [20], uranium [22], or even multivitamin [23] affect TL properties, which a useful feature for further application as an element of sensors. The influence of orga dopants will be discussed in chapter 6.…”
