Innovative Service Delivery Models for Serving Children with Speech Sound Disorders

Abstract: Service delivery variables that may have an impact on the treatment outcomes of children with speech sound disorders include the number and duration of intervention sessions, distribution of the sessions over time, and the format (group intervention or individual intervention). In this article, we briefly review these variables and the recommendations for the most effective service delivery components for children with speech sound disorders. We then describe innovative, collaborative service delivery models f… Show more

“…22 Compared with the standard intervention model, children with mild or mild-to-moderate speech disorders may make more benefit from shorter and more frequent personalized treatment modes. 23 Contemporary research on evidence-based speech intervention has confirmed the positive results of SSD reinforcement treatment programs, including specifically selected word stimuli in the intervention process. 24,25 Similarly, in this experiment, a concentrated reinforcement intervention method was adopted.…”

“…Over the years, studies that include phonological intervention have intensified to ascertain its efficacy and efficiency in the adult Brazilian Portuguese population. The intervention process in individuals with PD primarily aims to reorganize the altered phonological system and improve speech intelligibility (8)(9)(10)(11) . However, for this to happen, the subjects need to be motivated to carry out the activities proposed in the therapy that involves the ability in which they have the greatest difficulty, speech production.…”
