ABSTRACT:Horn antenna is flaring of open end of the waveguide. It is most widely used antenna at UHF and at microwave range. These are widely used transmitting and receiving antenna in the laboratory. Horn antenna provides a gradual transition of EM energy to the free space and prevent reflection of energy. The horn antennas are not always of small size, the world's largest conical horn antenna is about 14 feet.In this review paper, various techniques of antenna have been proposed. This paper is a review for optimization of gain performance of an antenna. The different type of material has different effects on horn antenna. The Particle Swarm Optimization technique is also discussed here to optimize the results.

Diffraction problem of the TE 1n -and TM 0n -modes by a system of annular slots in the hollow inner conductor of a coaxial waveguide is considered. Inner conductor is of finite thickness. The waveguide is filled with dielectrics with different permittivities. As a key problem the diffraction problem by a circular-to-coaxial waveguide step discontinuity is solved with the mode-matching technique. The obtained solution is used in the analysis of structures with a finite and semiinfinite number of discontinuities. Dependences of the transmission and reflection coefficients of the dominant mode of a circular and coaxial waveguides as functions of wavenumber and distance between slots are analyzed.

A lens-corrected smooth-walled axis-symmetrical dielectric-loaded horn antenna is designed and characterized in Ka-band using the bodies of revolution finite-difference time domain (BoR-FDTD) technique and genetic algorithm. The joint optimization of the horn and dielectric loading profiles enables us to develop a horn with a very good gain performance achieved in a frequency range of about 18%. Compared to earlier results, the bandwidth improvement exceeds a factor two. A lightweight prototype is fabricated in metallized foam. A very good agreement between the numerical and measured data is obtained.Index Terms-Bodies of revolution finite-difference time domain (BoR-FDTD), genetic algorithm, metallized foam, millimeter waves, smooth-walled shaped horns.
