Innate Lymphoid Cells in Autoimmune Diseases

Abstract: Innate lymphoid cells (ILC) are a heterogeneous group of immune cells characterized by lymphoid morphology and cytokine profile similar to T cells but which do not express clonally distributed diverse antigen receptors. These particular cells express transcription factors and cytokines reflecting their similarities to T helper (Th)1, Th2, and Th17 cells and are therefore referred to as ILC1, ILC2, and ILC3. Other members of the ILC subsets include lymphoid tissue inducer (LTi) and regulatory ILC (ILCreg). Natu… Show more

“…ILCs are involved in maintaining the integrity of the epithelium and homeostasis, tissue repair, and rapid response against pathogens. The role of these different ILC subpopulations in MG should be investigated in detail as their implication in autoimmunity is beginning to emerge ( 34 ).…”

“…Indeed, ILC3 seem to be involved in AS pathogenesis from several pieces of evidence. These cells are located mainly at mucosal barriers, in particular in the gut where they regulate interactions with the microbiome and gut homeostasis [ 78 , 79 ]. Two distinct ILC3 populations including NKp44 + and NKp44 - cells may be recognised.…”

“…Über Zytokinproduktion, insbesondere auch IL-5, kann eine Th2-Immunantwort initiiert sowie Eosinophile und Mastzellen rekrutiert werden. Eine potentielle Rolle von ILCs in der Pathophysiologie der EGPA bleibt noch unklar, allerdings erscheint eine Vermittlungsfunktion zwischen angeborenem und erworbenem Immunsystem möglich [7].…”
