Abstract:The innate immune system protects the host from infections. It includes cells that immediately recognize and respond to pathogens. The innate response of the immune system is not specific: it reacts in the same way to all pathogens it recognizes. Unlike the adaptive immune system, the innate system does not provide long-term immunity against specific infections. Innate immune systems provide immediate defense against infections.
