Inhibitory effects of miR‑26b‑5p on thyroid cancer

Abstract: In order to examine the inhibitory effects of microRNA (miR)-26b-5p on thyroid cancer (TC), the clinicopathological features and pathological tissues of 67 patients were collected. The expression levels of miR-26b-5p were detected in TC and paracarcinoma tissues by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and the association between miR-26b-5p expression and the clinicopathological features of the patients was analyzed using t-test or one-way analysis of variance. In addition, B-CPAP TC cells were infected with… Show more

“…We also did not find any significance between miR-26b-5p and the clinical data of our studied cases. Our study is consistent with previous studies, which indicated no significance between miR-26b-5p and clinical data including age, sex, tumour stage 55 , grade, and survival 16 . On the contrary, other studies showed a significant correlation between miR-26b-5p and both survival in HCC 18 and clinical stage in thyroid cancer 17 .…”

“…Subsequent experiments confirmed that miR-26b-5p was a direct target of HAGLROS. MiR-26b-5p has been demonstrated as an oncogenic driver in some types of tumors, including thyroid cancer [ 31 ], bladder cancer [ 32 ], multiple myeloma [ 33 ] and tongue squamous cell carcinoma [ 34 , 35 ]. What is more, miR-26b-5p was previously revealed to be down-regulated in HCC.…”

“…The alterations of Dicer levels and the consequent aberrant expression of specific miRNAs, with a prominent role in these tissues, may be driving this phenotype. Particularly, miR-21 [ 63 ] and miR-4661-5p [ 64 ] have been found to act as oncogenic miRNAs (onco-miRs) in colorectal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, respectively, whereas miR-124-5p [ 65 ] and miR-26b-5p [ 66 ] seem to protect against to colorectal and thyroid cancer, respectively.…”
