Inhibitory effect of aqueous extract of Cuminum cyminum L. seed on degranulation of RBL-2H3 cells and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction in mice

Abstract: Cuminum cyminum L. (cumin) seed is used as a spice in various countries. Although several functions of the components in cumin seed have been reported, the anti-allergic effect of the water-soluble component in cumin seed has not been reported yet. In this study, we focused on the suppressive effect of cumin seed aqueous extract on degranulation in order to reveal the anti-allergic effect of cumin. Cumin seed aqueous extract significantly suppressed the antigeninduced degranulation of rat basophilic leukemia c… Show more

“…The dosage may affect the effects of cumin on various situations [ 33 ]. In a previous study, 100 to 10,000 μg/mL of aqueous extract of ultra-filtrated cumin seed was applied for the evaluation of degranulation and cell viability of rat basophilic leukemia cells [ 34 ]. The obtained minimum inhibitory concentration for cumin was 2–4 µL/mL (mean: 3.1 µL/mL) [ 8 ].…”

“…Various extraction methods have been used for cumin including extraction methods using water, methanol, ethanol and ethyl acetate [ 34 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. An aqueous extract of cumin was applied for the evaluation of the inflammatory response in immune cells and antiallergic effects [ 34 , 40 ]. A methanol extract of cumin was used for the evaluation of the protective role of cumin against biomolecular damage and neuropharmacological activities [ 36 , 39 ].…”

“…To determine the solid content of HXZQ-OL, 10 mL sample was placed in a 25 mL evaporating dish, followed by evaporating with water bath, and then was dried at 105 C for 3 h. The solid content of HXZQ-OL was 87.9 mg/mL. PCA PCA was conducted following the previous method with modification (Hada et al 2019). HXZQ-OL at dosages of 263.8, 527.6 and 1055 mg/kg that was equivalent to 1/2, 1, 2 times the adult clinical dosage were orally administrated for seven consecutive days.…”
