Inhibitory effect of 1-tetradecanol on Helicobacter pylori-induced production of interleukin-8 and vascular endothelial growth factor in gastric epithelial cells

Abstract: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection activates pro‑inflammatory mediators, including interleukin (IL)‑8 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in gastric epithelial cells. 1‑Tetradecanol (1‑TD) has been purified from Dendropanax morbifera Leveille; its physiological activities are poorly understood. The present study assessed whether 1‑TD has an effect on H. pylori‑mediated inflammation in AGS gastric epithelial cells. 1‑TD reduced IL‑8 production by AGS cells in response to H. pylori in a signific… Show more

“…Kim et al reported that 1-tetradecanol, which was isolated from the n-hexane fraction of D. morbifera, effectively inhibits Helicobacter pylori stain-induced pro-inflammatory mediators, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and IL-8 in gastric epithelial cells. These results confirmed that treatment with different concentrations of 1-tetradecanol (30, 100, and 300 µM) treatments may have a potential preventive effect on gastric inflammation induced by H. pylori [ 74 ]. Meanwhile, other research suggests that oleifolioside-A, a new triterpenoid compound isolated from D. morbifera , suppresses LPS-induced proinflammatory cytokines and their mediators in a dose-dependent manner.…”

“…We have tested and reported the cytotoxicity of DP and 5-uRCK extracts in various cells through similar studies. As a result, we have not observed any cytotoxicity of these extracts up to 300 μg/mL in 3 T3-L1 cells [5,6,21], HepG2 cells [3,4,42], human gastric epithelial cell [43], mouse melanoma cells [44] and rat primary hepatocytes [45]. Although this study did not provide direct cytotoxicity results, it is expected that there will be no cytotoxicity according to the results of our previous reports.…”

“…The olfactory sensitivity of KO mosquitoes to 1-tetradecanol and heptanal was signi cantly reduced. 1-Tetradecanol, also known as myristol, is an excellent thermosensitive material and has an anti-in ammatory effect (Kim et al 2017;). To our knowledge, this study is the rst to report that 1-tetradecanol is attractive to mosquitoes.…”
