INHIBITORY ACTION OF PAPAYA SEED EXTRACTS ON THE CORROSION OF CARBON STEEL IN 1 MOL L−1HCl SOLUTION

Abstract: HCl SOLUTION. The effect of two papaya seed extracts (infusion and acid extracts) on the corrosion of carbon steel in 1 mol L -1 HCl was examined. The efficiency for inhibiting the corrosion of C-steel in 1 mol L -1 HCl increased with the extract concentration and decreased slightly with the temperature. The inhibitory property of the extract is discussed in terms of the mechanism by which its components adsorb onto the C-steel surface decreasing the active surface area. This adsorption process obeyed a Langmu… Show more

“…Nevertheless, predominant cathodic effectiveness can be noted for the experiments using the aqueous extracts, as shown in the β c values shown in Table 4. These results suggest that, under the present conditions, the extracts can retard the main reactions that occur in anodic and cathodic branches: the metal dissolution and the reduction of hydrogen ions to H 2 (g) 25 , respectively.…”

“…Then, the mixture was diluted with deionized water in a 10.00 mL volumetric flask. From this stock solution, standard solutions were prepared with known concentrations of gallic acid to build the calibration curve (5,10,15,25,50, and 70 μg mL -1 ). The same procedures described previously for the samples were used to prepare the standard solutions.…”

“…These results suggest the existence of a monolayer on the mild steel surface, which involves the chemical adsorption of bulky molecules on the metallic surface. Since the chemical nature of the adsorbed molecules is unknown, the determination of the thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG 0 is not possible [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]31 . Figure 6 shows the anodic and cathodic curves for the mild steel in 1 mol L −1 HCl solution, obtained in the absence and presence of the studied extracts.…”

“…Recently, interest has increased with the development and use of low-cost and eco-friendly compounds as corrosion inhibitors [1][2] . In our previous works, the effect of aqueous extracts of spent coffee grounds, coffee husk, garlic, and onion peels, fruit peels (mango, orange, passion fruit and cashew), grape pomace and papaya seeds on the corrosion of carbon steel in 1 mol L −1 HCl was studied [9][10][11][12][13][14][15] .…”

“…Os dados foram analisados através das isotermas de Freundlich. Com base nos dados experimentais da concentração de cromo no equilíbrio, calculou-se a quantidade de cromo adsorvido no biossólido em mg.
