Inhibition of Mild Steel Corrosion in 1M Hydrochloric Medium by the Methanolic Extract ofAmmi visnagaL. Lam Seeds

Abstract: The chemical composition of the methanolic extract of Ammi visnaga (Khella) seeds from the Sidi Slimane region is determined for the first time by Gas Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Ten compounds representing 99.638% of the total extract were identified. Khellin (49.011%), Visnagin (26.537%) and Dimethylethylamine (15.108%) are the major components. Moreover, the inhibitory effect of the Methanolic extract of the seeds of Ammi visnaga on the corrosion of mild steel in a solution of 1M H… Show more

“…Most recently, Zaheer et al, utilized extract of Ammi visnaga L. Lam seeds and reported the increase in the inhibition efficiency with the concentration of the extract and extract demonstrated the inhibition efficiency up to 84% at a concentration of 1.0 g/L. The polarization measurements indicate that the examined extract acts as a mixed inhibitor with predominant anodic efficacy (Zaher et al, 2020). Similarly, Majd et al, tested Esfand seed extract as a green corrosion inhibitor and extract provided inhibition efeciency of 98.8% while using 300 mg/l extract (Majd et al, 2020).…”

“…However, corrosion has always been a challenge faced by the industry players. This is due to the usage of acid as the cleaning medium for mild steel, as explained by Zaher et al [2] and Sulaiman et al [3]. This was corroborated by Dehghani et al [4].…”

“…Zaher [2] and Bouraoui [12] affirmed that mild steel is very prone to acid attack. The types of acids usually used for acid cleaning and acid pickling are nitric acid (HNO 3 ), sulfuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ), and hydrochloric acid (HCl).…”

“…Currently, natural inhibitors are a topic of research in development based on the number of publications coming out each year [10][11][12][13][14] . The tests carried out on the study of anticorrosive properties of plant extracts gave promising results [15][16][17] . Hence, Table 1 represents certain previous studies on the corrosion inhibition of steel in 1 M HCl medium by green inhibitors, using polarization tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.…”
