Inhibition of growth and metastasis of human gastric cancer implanted in nude mice byd-limonene

Abstract: d-limonene has antiangiogenic and proapoptotic effects on gastric cancer, thereby inhibits tumor growth and metastasis. Combination of d-limonene with cytotoxic agents may be more effective.

“…Interestingly, cantharidin, calamanene and hydroxycalamanene have also been shown to inhibit the proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells via oxidative stress-independent cell cycle arrest and the induction of apoptosis. 43,44 Furthermore, compounds structurally similar to calamanene and hydroxycalamanene have also been associated with the induction of apoptosis in human lung cancer cell lines by upregulating DR4 and DR5 cell death receptors and enhancing the activation of caspases 3, 7, 8 and 9, 43,44 possibly accounting for the anticancer activity previously reported for lemon aspen extracts.…”

“…34 Previous studies suggest, D-limonene shows regression of tumor in in-vivo animal models. 19,20 Immunocompromised K562 tumor xenograft model was used to evaluate the in vivo efficacy of D-limonene at different doses. Immunosuppression was achieved with combination treatment of cyclosporine, ketoconazole and cyclophosphamide in C57BL/6 mice with 100% take rate.…”

“…Several terpenoids previously reported in T. ferdinandiana fruit extracts have been reported to suppress NF-kB signaling (the major regulator of inflammatory diseases). 48 The monoterpenes limonene 49,50 and α-pinene 51 have been reported to inhibit NF-κBsignaling pathways. α-Pinene affects inflammation by inhibiting p65 translocation into the nucleus in LPS-induced NF-κB signalling.…”
