“…Hypodipsia following i.c.v. CRF/Ucn 1 similarly was reported in mice, rats, chickens, and sheep (Denbow et al, 1999;Weisinger et al, 2000;Inoue et al, 2003). The peptides' anorectic effects were not secondary to hypodipsia since they were retained in pica testing, during which water was not provided.…”

“…In birds, CRF-containing neurons are found in BSTL and other limbic regions (e.g., PoA, TnA, hippocampal formation, and CDL) (Péczely and Antoni, 1984;Ball et al, 1989;Richard et al, 2004). Furthermore, subcutaneous or intracerebroventricular injection of CRF decreases the number of distress vocalization of isolated quail chicks, decreases food intake in the chicken, territorial defense in the male white-crown sparrow, suppresses courtship behavior in the female, and decreases schedulecontrolled key pecking in pigeons (Barrett et al, 1989;Launay et al, 1993;Maney and Wingfield, 1998;Romero et al, 1998;Denbow et al, 1999;Ohgushi et al, 2001). Thus, CRF has functions mediating appetite, sexual behavior, social behavior, and learning in birds.…”

“…In the case of CRF-induced behavioral responses, there is a remarkable degree of conservation among vertebrates with respect to the eVects of CRF on several behaviors that have been studied including, notably, ingestive, and reproductive behaviors. CRF decreases ingestive behaviors in Wsh (reviewed in Bernier and Peter (2001); VolkoV et al (2005)), amphibians , birds (Denbow et al, 1999;Furuse et al, 1997;Ohgushi et al, 2001;Richardson et al, 2000;Zhang et al, 2001a,b), and mammals (reviewed in (Dunn and Berridge, 1990)). In amphibians, this has been extended to include prey-catching behaviors (Carr et al, 2002).…”
