Inhibition of established transplants of chemically induced sarcomas in syngeneic mice by lymphocytes from immunized donors

Abstract: Intravenous injections of lymph node cells from immunized BALB/c and (C57BL/‐6 X A) F1 mice and from immunized sheep induced regression or inhibition of established grafts of a methylcholanthrene‐induced sarcoma in syngeneic BALB/c mice.

“…Transfer of immunity by immune [12][13][14] or hyperimmune lymphocytes [3] and hyperimmune spleen cells [3,4] has been reported. It has been shown also that passive transfer of allogeneic immuno-competent lymphoid cells under certain conditions may hold in check experimental tumours temporarily and sometimes even destroy the tumour completely [15][16][17][18].…”

“…injections of allogeneic immune or hyperimmune peritoneal cells is very successful (Tables 1, 2). This reduction possibly might be due to a sensitization reaction of the DBA/2 host caused by the successive administration of allogeneic cells [12] resulting in rejection of the immune cells. Rejection of these allogeneic immune cells may lead to a "free" proliferation of SL2 lymphoma ceils which might still be present in the immune peritoneal cell suspension obtained from mice immunized 10 days earlier [1,2], and which might finally kill the mouse.…”

“…The treatment of a Landschutz ascites tumor using a com bination of radiation and sensitized rat lymphocytes reduced the amount of ascities in the animals and extended their survival when compared to controls [19], Sheep lymphocytes given systemically have in duced regression in established benzpyrene-induced rat sarcomas [20], and in methylcholanthrene-induced rat sarcomas [21], allegedly with some tumor specificity. Most recently, specifically senstized procine lympho cytes have allegedly reduced the number of pulmonary nodules in a lung métastasés model, but only when combined with whole lung radiation [22],…”
