“…Thereinto, most of these drugs are involved in angiogenesis inhibition, e.g., arbutin [ 42 ], entinostat [ 43 ], sulforaphane [ 44 ], and sunitinib [ 45 ], which have been demonstrated to suppress angiogenesis in tumor treatments effectively. Triclosan [ 46 ] and ribavirin [ 47 ] had been identified as effectual angiogenesis inhibitors. Cyclosporine promoted osteogenic differentiation of periodontal membrane stem cells and curbed angiogenesis [ 48 ].…”

“…Overexpression of EIF4E results in a dramatic increase in VEGF and fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2), two potent angiogenic agents [60,61]. In contrast, blocking EIF4E signaling selectively inhibited angiogenesis in human endothelial cells in vitro [62] and in vivo [63,64].…”

“…Due to its ability to target eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), which plays a critical role in the translation of VEGF and other pro-angiogenic genes, Ribavirin has exhibited strong anticancer activity against various cancers. Studies have found that Ribavirin is active against lung cancer cell lines regardless of molecular and cellular heterogeneity, and it acts on lung cancer cells by inhibiting eIF4E and mTOR signaling pathways, thereby inhibiting eIF4E-mediated protein translation and exerting an anti-angiogenic effect ( 79 ). The cholesterol-lowering drug Pitavastatin can inhibit lung cancer-related EC migration and morphologic changes without affecting adhesion, thus demonstrating a role in inhibiting lung cancer cell growth and angiogenesis.…”
