Inhibition Effect of Negative Air Ions on Adsorption between Volatile Organic Compounds and Environmental Particulate Matter

Abstract: This work focused on the chemisorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on particulate matter of less than 2.5 μm (PM 2.5 ). The detection results illustrated that VOCs on PM 2.5 containing hydroxyl, carbonyl, and ester groups and C x H y on PM 2.5 were sequentially decreased as 70.02, 21.35, 6.42, and 2.21%, respectively. The chemisorption mechanism showed that the stronger the electronegativity of oxygen-containing functional groups of VOCs, the easier it is to adsorb them on the silicate PM 2.5 due to h… Show more

“…In our previous work, we mainly analyzed the effect of NAIs on specific organic compounds in particulate matter. 20 However, we consider it more important to summarize the commonalities of compounds in APs. Therefore, we want to know more about the mechanism of the physical-chemical reaction between particles and NAIs through the structural changes in the composition of the compounds.…”

“…The antibacterial activity of the germanium-PA6 fibers against S. aureus and E. coli , was measured at Fujian Fiber Inspection Center and the evaluation method was referred to AATCC 100-2012. 1 5 In detail, the strains were cultured in phosphate-buffered saline in an incubator overnight at 37°C. A certain amount of each fiber specimen (1 g) was transferred into a flask, and 1 ml of the inoculum (10 5 cfu/ml) was added on each fiber specimen.…”

“…Negative air ions (NAIs) have attracted wide attention as air vitamins because of their air-purifying, antibacterial, and healthcare functions. [1][2][3][4] NAIs, including O 2 À (H 2 O) n , OH À (H 2 O) n , and CO 4 À (H 2 O) n , are naturally abundant in forest, waterfall, and lake air environments. NAIs can also be generated through air ionization, which is induced by the accumulation of extranuclear electrons from special mineral elements.…”

“…Besides, negative oxygen ions can improve people's sleep quality and blood circulation, enhance cardiopulmonary functions, aerobic metabolism, and recovery after movements, as well as cure pneumoconiosis by integrating with low load aerobic Yoga [11][12][13][14][15]. An NAI generator can eliminate particulate matters in the atmosphere while filtering and inactivating aerosolized viruses [16][17][18][19]. Therefore, an investigation of the NAI concentration is of great significance for human physical and mental health and the improvement of air quality.…”
