Inhibition Behaviour of Some Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazides on the Corrosion of Mild Steel in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

Abstract: New corrosion inhibitors, namely, isonicotinic acid (1H-indol-3-yl-methylene)hydrazide (INIMH) and isonicotinic acid (1H-pyrrol-2-yl-methylene)hydrazide (INPMH), have been synthesized, and their inhibitive characteristics for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M HCl were investigated by mass loss and electrochemical techniques. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed using spectral studies. Potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed that the investigated inhibitors are of mixed type. Vari… Show more

“…The surface morphology analysis confirmed the film formation by inhibitor molecules on mild steel surface. Chakravarthy and Mohana 20 have reported the synthesis of some isonicotinic acid hydrazides namely, isonicotinic acid (1H-indol-3-yl-methylene)hydrazide (HD 25 ) and isonicotinic acid (1H-pyrrol-2-yl-methylene)hydrazide (HD 26 ), and study of their inhibitive characteristics in 0.5 M HCl against corrosion of mild steel. Polarization results indicated the mixed type behaviour of compounds, HD 25 and HD 26 .…”

“…The mechanism of this protection depends on the metal and inhibitor under consideration. In most cases, however, it is due to the adsorption of these compounds onto the surface of metals which can reduce the extent of corrosion through thermodynamics or kinetics phenomena [3][4][5][6]. The effectiveness of any corrosion inhibitor is dependent on the type of metal and properties of the corrosive environment [7][8][9][10][11].…”
