INHERITANCE AND GENE ACTION FOR YIELD AND ITS ATTRIBUTES IN THREE BREAD WHEAT CROSSES (Triticum aestivum L.).

Abstract: The present investigation was carried out at El-Gemmeiza Agricultural Research station, Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Egypt during four successive seasons from 2007/2008 through 2010/2011. Three crosses were used among five parental varieties, namely P1xP2 (1), P3xP4 (2) and P4xP5 (3) five populations (P1, P2, F1, F2 and F3) for each cross were used in this investigation. Highly significant heterotic values in positive direction were found for all charcters except for plant height and 1000-grain yield in… Show more

“…of kernels/spike in the second cross and 100-kernel weight in both of first and second crosses while none of the crosses exhibited positive or negative significant for No.of spikes/plant. These results agree with those obtained by Hassan et al (2013), Koumber and El-Gammaal (2012), Abd El-Aty et al Patel et al (2018).…”

“…However, both BC 1 and BC 2 mean values varied according to the character itself, which tended toward the mean of recurrent parent for the studied traits with some exceptions. Similar results were obtained by Manal H. Eid (2009), Koumber andEl-Gammaal (2012) andHamam (2013).…”

“…The estimated values of (H2/4H1) however, were found to be less than (0.25) for number of spikes/plant at medium and normal nitrogen levels in addition to grain protein content at three nitrogen levels, indicating that positive and negative alleles were not equally distributed among the parents for these traits. Similar results were previously obtained by Koumber and El-Gammaal (2012).…”

“…Transgressive segregants for thousand-kernel weight and inbreeding depression for biomass, grain yield, grains per spike and spike number were observed in the F 2 generation. Koumber and El-Gammaal (2012) reported similar results. Broad sense heritability values were equal to or greater than 50% for the traits under study, suggesting possibilities for improvement through selection.…”
