In fluider Phase lassen sich Stoffeigenschaften erheblich verändern. Phasengleichgewichte und chemische Gleichgewichte können stark beeinflußt werden, und chemische Reaktionen lassen sich unter Nutzung der besonderen Eigenschaften verdichteter fluider Phasen durchführen. Der Einsatz hohen Drucks bei chemischen Umsetzungen ist von erheblichem diagnostischen und präparativem Wert. Das anwendungsbezogene Interesse richtet sich vor allem auf das detaillierte Studium technischer Hochdrucksynthesen und auf die Entwicklung neuartiger Fluidphasen‐Umsetzungen, bei denen hoher Druck zur Steuerung chemischer Reaktionen im Sinne einer druckinduzierten Selektivität eingesetzt wird. Für die Bearbeitung dieser Forschungsanliegen wie auch für Untersuchungen der Struktur und Dynamik im Gesamtbereich von gasförmigen bis hin zu flüssigkeitsähnlichen Zuständen ist es wichtig, Methoden zur spektroskopischen Charakterisierung von Systemen unter hohem Druck und bei hohen Temperaturen verfügbar zu haben. Der vorliegende Aufsatz befaßt sich mit der quantitativen Absorptionsspektroskopie im infraroten bis ultravioletten Bereich bei Drücken bis etwa 7 kbar und bei Temperaturen bis 900 K.

The properties of fluid phases can be altered considerably by the external conditions. Phase equilibria and chemical equilibria can be greatly affected, and it is possible to carry out chemical reactions by exploiting the special properties of compressed fluid phases. The use of high pressure in chemical reactions is of considerable diagnostic and preparative value. Applied research is directed towards elucidating the details of existing technical high pressure processes and to the development of novel fluid phase reactions where the application of high pressure is able to induce selectivity. In order to pursue these lines of research, and to study structure and dynamics throughout the entire range from gaseous to liquidlike states, it is important to have spectroscopic methods for characterizing systems at high pressures and temperatures.This article is concerned with quantitative absorption spectroscopy in the infrared to the ultraviolet spectral region at pressures up to about 7 kbar and temperatures up to 900 K.

First and Second Overtone Absorption of Pure Carbon Monoxide to High Pressures and Temperatures

The first and second overtone absorption of pure carbon monoxide was measured at supercritical temperatures between 293 K and 500 K in an extended pressure range up to 2.8 kbar. The near infrared bandshape, almost up to the critical density, is adequately represented by summing up over individual rotation‐vibration lines with half‐widths proportional to density. Band maximum positions and vibrational intensities between gaseous and liquid‐like states are reported and discussed. The molar integrated absorptivity is independent of temperature and, in the first overtone, varies by less than 2% with density which enables direct and precise measurements of CO concentrations in fluid phase equilibria and reactions via high‐pressure near infrared Spectroscopy.
