Infrared Thermometer: an accurate tool for temperature measurement during renal surgery

Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate infrared thermometer (IRT) accuracy compared to standard digital thermometer in measuring kidney temperature during arterial clamping with and without renal cooling. Materials and Methods: 20 pigs weighting 20Kg underwent selective right renal arterial clamping, 10 with (Group 1 -Cold Ischemia with ice slush) and 10 without renal cooling (Group 2 -Warm Ischemia). Arterial clamping was performed without venous clamping. Renal temperature was serially measured following clamping of the main … Show more

“…At set time intervals (after procurement, UW flushing, cold storage, and backtable preparation, at the start of WIT2, after 10, 20, and 30 min, at reperfusion, and 10 min afterward), kidney temperature was measured using a noncontact infrared thermometer (Voltcraft®, IR 800‐20D Thermometer, Conrad Electronic, Sweden) . The thermometer has a double laser with sharp‐point optics for target localization with a pickup time of <150 ms and a basic accuracy of 2%.…”

“…Indirect measurement will need to accompany the methods of the testing. One of the provided methods is using infrared thermal measurements, which can measure the temperature without physical contact [13], [14]. This method will calculate the temperatures based on the emerging infrared wave [15].…”
