“…To determine if the nitrate ions are present as sodium nitrate, nickel nitrate or just free ions, additional characterization by FT-IR spectrometry was performed as shown in Figure 3c. The only peak that matches to the FT-IR spectrum of the sf-NiO x , corresponds to the ν3 vibration mode of the nitrate ions in the sodium nitrate, 44 which is in agreement with the previous identification of sodium by EDS. This suggest that the amorphous phase is formed not only by unreacted Ni(OH) 2 but also by chemisorbed Na + and NO 3 − ions.…”

“…The NO 3 - ions lie in parallel planes. The unit cell spectroscopic analyses of Eckhardt et al of the two nitrate groups show that the antisymmetric stretching vibrations that characterize the isolated ions, of type ν 3 (e‘), couple to give two doubly degenerate vibrational modes. One, ν 3 (e u ), is infrared active with transition dipoles directed orthogonal to the trigonal axis of the rhombohedral unit cell.…”

“…Spectrum a is the absorption derived using optical constants obtained from reflection measurements from a face of single-crystal NaNO 3 . 28,29 The middle spectrum, b, is transferred from Figure 3, a typical spectrum of nitrate produced by HNO 3 reaction on NaCl(100). Absorption by a thin film of a dilute NaNO 3 solution from Figure 7 is spectrum c.…”
