“…Their spectral feature closely resembles that of neat P4VP, suggesting that the spectra measured after the adsorption of Au nanoparticles are the authentic SERS spectra of P4VP on Au [33,34]. According to a theoretical calculation, the nonvalence interaction of the pyridine rings and CH 2 groups is negligibly weak [35]. Consequently, the normal modes of the pyridine rings and CH 2 groups can be considered separately to a good approximation, and the vibrations of the ring atoms can be classified in accordance with the C 2v point group.…”

“…Specifically,w ee xamined homochiral evolutionthroughthe self-assembly of stereoregularpolymers, as directed by the associated chiral dopants.T hisa pproach may provide an ew mechanismf or homochiral evolution through self-assembly,which is critical for keymolecularprocesses and relieso nadelicate balance between molecular and hierarchicalc hirality.Apreferential chain helicity can be inducedb y complexation withchiral HMA for homochiral evolutionfrom moleculart oc onformational chirality ( Figure 1). In the presence of HMA, the characteristic absorption band at 1590 cm À1 , resulting from the C À Ca nd C À Ns tretching vibrations in the pyridine rings of iP2VP, [5] broadened and shifted toward ah igher wavenumber (hypsochromic shift), thus indicating the association of iP2VP and HMA owing to acid-base complexation. Figure 2a shows the UV/Vis and CD spectra of iP2VP and the iP2VP/HMAcomplexinthe solution state. The absorption peak at 260 nm is ascribed to the p-p*t ransitiono ft he pyridine rings of iP2VP.Mirror-image CD spectra wereclearly identifiedf or the iP2VP/(S)-HMA and iP2VP/(R)-HMA complexes in 1,2-dichloroethane,w hereas iP2VP without achiral dopant was CD silent, thus suggesting ICD behavior of iP2VP.T his result indicates the association of HMA with the pyridyl groups of iP2VP.N ote that it is not possible to record the UV/Vis spectrum below 230 nm in solution owing to the cut-off effect of the solvent used.…”

“…The broad feature at 3450 cm" 1 is due to water which was difficult to eliminate from the KBr pellet. The assignments for the major bands in this spectrum (Table II) are relatively straight-forward based on the assignments for polystyrene (_5), poly(4-vinylpyridine) (6), and substituted pyridines (7). The reflectance FTIR spectrum for the plasma polymerized film prepared under the conditions specified for Sample 1 in Table I is shown in Figure 3.…”

“…Chamber pressure was monitored with an MFCS Baratron Type 90H-1 capacitance manometer. The reactor was evacuated to less than 10" 6 Torr with a diffusion pump prior to introduction of monomer. During the actual deposition, a mechanical pump with an in-line liquid nitrogen cold trap was used to maintain monomer and carrier gas flow.…”
