Infrared Nondestructive Testing of Glass Filament-Wound Rocket Motor Cases

Abstract: A description of experimental and theoretical studies leadin gto the demonstration of the feasibility of flaw detection in glass filament-wound rocket motor cases, using infrared scanning, is presented. The importance of selecting the best method of heating the specimen in order better to improve the information derived from observation is emphasized. Sources of error are reviewed. The apparatus, measurement techniques, and experimental results are described.
