Information‐theoretic approach in density functional theory and its recent applications to chemical problems

Abstract: Using simple functionals of the electron density to appreciate and quantify molecular structure and chemical reactivity properties is a recent endeavor in density functional theory (DFT) toward the development of a new chemical reactivity theory. According to the first Hohenberg–Kohn theorem in DFT, the electron density alone should be able to determine any property in the ground state. Exchange and correlation energies are such properties, so are molecular structure and chemical reactivity, and hence they all… Show more

“…The relative Rényi entropy is a relatively new introduction in the literature whose physiochemical significance is still much to be explored. 23,24 The result in Figs. 4b and 4d implies that this quantity from the information-theoretic approach can be applied to appreciate enantioselectivity.…”

“…Entropy is a feature of probability distributions and can be used to quantify uncertainty. High values of local information entropy are directly proportional to the uncertainty of spatial distribution of electrons [ [78] , [79] , [80] , [81] ]. Fig.…”

The high value of local information entropy is directionally proportional to the uncertainty of electrons in spatial distribution [ 93 , 94 ].
