Purpose -Managing IT with firm performance has always been a debatable topic in literature and practice. Prior studies examining the above relationship have reported mixed results and have yet ignored the eminent managing IT practices. The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the relevance of Val-IT 2.0 practice in managing IT investment, and its mediating role in the firm performance context. Design/methodology/approach -This paper developed on two themes of literature. First managing IT as a firm's IT capability in order to generate value from IT investment. Second IT as a firm's resource under resource-based view offers firm's competence that deploys potentials in achieving firm performance. The structural equation modeling with PLS techniques used for analyzing data collected from 176 organization's IT, and business executives in China. Findings -The results of this study show empirical evidence that Val-IT's components (value governance, portfolio management, and investment management) are significantly linked to the management of IT, and it found to be a significant mediator between Val-IT components and firm performance.Research implications -This research contributes to the literature and practice by way of highlighting the value generation through managing IT on firm performance.Originality -This study is fully based on Val-IT 2.0 with the firm performance where the managing IT mediate this relationship in a country-specific study in China. This study adds to the Chinese information system literature which suffers the lack of empirical studies in the context of management of IT research.

This study aims to identify and analyze the key sub-factors of benefits and barriers as critical success factors for the implementation of IT Governance. The hope of the research is that the results of this identification and analysis can provide a high value of benefits in order to stakeholders in implementing IT Governance. In addition, it is expected to also give a real contribution to the development of theory or concept in the field of IT Governance especially related to critical success factor. The method used in this research is the interpretive structural model, where this method is very suitable to find the key sub-factor with a well-structured hierarchy structure. The first step of this research begins with a literature review, survey and interviews by involving three experts in the field of IT Governance and then the information is processed according to the rules. The final result shows that sub-factors improve customer service and overall responsiveness is a key sub-factor in benefit factors, whereas the lack of financial and human support becomes a key sub-factor in barriers. These results are empirical because depending on the data obtained through expert interviews involved, therefore the quality and capacity of experts greatly affect the results obtained. This study demonstrates how benefits and constraints as a critical success factor in the application of IT Governance are interrelated. The interpretive structural model provides an understanding of how various benefits and barriers interact with each other. This is important because policymakers typically focus on one or two sub-factors only.

As organizações necessitam sempre estar atentas em relação ao ambiente competitivo, buscando atualizações e inovações para não serem surpreendidas pelos diversos fatos que podem influenciar seu negócio, direta ou indiretamente. A busca por técnicas que possam auxiliar as organizações são cada vez maiores e a Inteligência Competitiva (IC) é uma delas, obtendo e gerenciando informações úteis para fins econômicos e de negócios. Na literatura identificou-se 22 ciclos de inteligência competitiva possíveis e notou-se que não existe neles qualquer alinhamento a uma norma em geral e nem a uma norma de governança, com a finalidade de padronizar e avaliar o processo do ciclo de IC. O objetivo desse artigo é apresentar um método de avaliação do ambiente de IC, com base em uma norma de governança de TI, o CobiT v4.1. Esse método ficou denominado de MAIC_CobiT. A abordagem metodológica para gerar o MAIC-CobiT passou pela etapa de revisão bibliográfica identificando-se os ciclos de inteligência competitiva existentes, dos quais foi selecionado um deles que serviu de base para elaboração da proposta do método bem como alguns aspectos pré-selecionados da norma CobiT v4.1 e, posteriormente, foi feita uma etapa de verificação de sua aplicabilidade por meio de um questionário junto a 10 Profissionais e Acadêmicos previamente selecionados. Por meio do MAIC_CobiT, pretende-se garantir que o ambiente de IC passe a ser avaliado regularmente e ao longo do tempo torne-se mais estável além do que a organização possa obter maior vantagem competitiva em relação aos seus concorrentes, pela aplicação dos planos de ação prescritos.
