Using various types of broadly classified and large-scale data, the Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation (ECDSWC) provides professional services such as engineering studies and design. Storing, managing, and sharing datasets within workgroups and research teams was not an easy task before the corporation implemented the data portal. To resolve the issues related to data management, this study provides a secured and modular data portal by implementing REST API principles. The data portal is used to manage a wide variety of datasets, such as spatial data and their attributes, along with metadata and other serialized documents that support the business operation of the corporation. On the top of data management strategies, the Security in Depth (SiD) mechanism is developed by implementing the Unified Identity Authentication Service, which provides a multilayered security scheme. The applicability of the data portal is demonstrated using datasets obtained from ECDSWC. Further, the accuracy, integrity and privacy of the data are evaluated, and system performance is weighed through a prepared test case.

A Novel Approach to Improve the Performance of the Database Storing Big Data with Time Information

Big data is defined as data sets that are too large and/or complex to be processed by classical data processing methods. Big data analysis is essential because it enables more competent business movements, more efficient operations, and higher profits by using the data of institutions and organizations. However, large datasets are difficult to analyze because they are produced quickly, require large storage areas in computer systems, and the diversity of their data. In this study, a new approach using the denormalization method is proposed to accelerate the response time of the database in database systems where large volumes of data containing historical information are stored. Denormalization is defined as the process of adding rows or columns that are not needed to increase the reading performance of the database to the database system that has been normalized. In the proposed approach in this study, a large-volume dataset consisting of real spatial data belonging to Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, containing temporal information and having approximately 96,000,000 row records, was used. In the proposed approach, the response time of the query is accelerated by recording the time information as numbers to increase the query performance of large volumes of data recorded in date format due to the temporal query process. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the performance of the normalization method using actual data on Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database systems. The method proposed in the experimental evaluations shows that it works approximately eight times faster. In addition, the experimental results showed that the proposed method improves query performance more than the normalization-based method as the data size increases.

Integrasi data kini telah menjadi kebutuhan bagi setiap organisasi. Organisasi yang tidak mengintegrasikan data antara satu divisi dengan divisi lainnya akan menimbulkan kemungkinan terjadinya redundansi dan data yang tidak konsisten. Proses integrasi data umumnya terkendala oleh penggunaan istilah dan penulisan nama tabel serta atribut yang berbeda. Dalam penelitian ini, metode Linguistik dikombinasikan dengan metode Constraint digunakan untuk menemukan kesamaan antara atribut database yang berbeda. Metode Bigram digunakan sebagai metode linguistik. Atribut yang diusulkan untuk dihapus oleh Bigram ditinjau kembali dari aspek Constraint. Dengan menggunakan metode ini, 8 tabel dan 60 atribut dapat direduksi dari tujuh database. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode ini mempunyai akurasi di atas 99% pada semua skenario. Di sisi lain, Precision terendah terdapat saat membandingkan atribut antara database Administrasi_siswa dan Kesiswaan, yaitu hanya mencapat 70%. Meskipun masih ada beberapa kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh Bigram sebagai metode Linguistik, kesalahan tersebut dapat ditutupi dengan menggabungkan metode tersebut dengan metode berbasis Constraint. Pengujian validitas hasil integrasi dilakukan dengan query menggunakan sintaks SQL langsung ke database dan menghasilkan hasil query yang benar.
