Over the past decades several studies aimed to rank the importance of CIO's activities. One aspect that stands out in these studies is the difficulty in finding two studies that agree on the relative importance of CIO's activities. On the one hand, this can be explained by the CIO role evolution. On the other hand, there may be certain variables that influence the perception of the importance of CIO's activities. This paper presents the results of an exploratory study developed to identify the current CIO's main activities and to verify whether CIO's demographics and CIO's business context influence the perception of the importance of those activities. The results show that managing projects, interacting with top management teams, optimizing business processes and making strategic decisions are main CIO's activities; and the importance recognized to these activities is influenced by characteristics such as the CIO's age or the hierarchical structure of the organization.

The skill shortage is becoming an ever-increasing challenge for IT departments. Allocation of resources in the best possible way is even more important. The challenge is to improve the enterprise not only on the side of the organizational and process level, but to develop new strategies and approaches in human resource management. Only a symbiosis of the disciplines economics, psychology and information technology will enable relevant and indispensable employees and promote loyalty to the company. A frequent change of the work place, for a well-trained professional, is so long associated with normality until they find the best environment for fulfilling their needs and expectations. These expectations are no longer just on a financial level. This paper will analyse the previous work on these topics and demonstrate first conclusions regarding a way forward.

Finding a satisfactory vendor or outsourcer for IT projects is a tedious task in typical public organizations. When there are many alternatives, it may be difficult to choose the right one. Thus, many selection criteria need to be used. In this paper, we present an MIS system that provides supported information for selecting the vendors. First, a standard specification is given to the system. Also, the scoring criteria is defined for each feature in the specification. Then, the vendors propose their product specification to the system. The system gives the summary reports comparing each vendor product and how much the criteria is met. Hence, the user can decide which vendor to choose. We present a case study of three scoring approaches, namely Percentage of Weight, Percentage of Price and Total Percentage, in one of a public organization.
