Abstract:The integrated information theory (IIT) measures the degree of consciousness in living organisms from an information-theoretic perspective. This theory can be extended to general systems such as those measuring criticality. Herein, we applied the IIT to actual collective behaviour (Plecoglossus altivelis). We found that the group integrity (i.e., Φ) could be maximised in the critical state and that several levels of criticalities existed in a group as subgroups. Furthermore, these fragmented critical groups co… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
