In this paper, we present a comprehensive investigation on the secrecy performance of opportunistic relay selection systems employing the decode-and-forward protocol over Rayleigh fading channels. Considering a practical setting where direct link between the source node (Alice) and the destination node (Bob) is available, we study the secrecy performance of three different diversity combining schemes, namely, maximum ratio combining (MRC), distributed selection combining (DSC), and distributed switch-and-stay combining (DSSC). Throughout the analysis, we consider two different scenarios based on the availability of the eavesdropper's channel state information (CSI) i.e., Scenario A: the eavesdropper's CSI is not available at Alice and the relay, and Scenario B: Alice and the relay have knowledge about the eavesdropper's CSI. For Scenario A, we derive exact closed-form expressions for secrecy outage probability and simple asymptotic approximations for the secrecy outage probability which enable the characterization of the achievable secrecy diversity order and coding gains. For Scenario B, we derive closed-form expressions for the achievable secrecy rates. For both scenarios, we investigate the impact of feedback delay (outdated CSI) on the secrecy performance wherein exact and asymptotic of secrecy outage probability, and closed-form expressions of the secrecy achievable rates are obtained. Our analytical findings suggest that both the MRC and DSC schemes achieve the maximum diversity order of K + 1 where K is the number of relays. In addition, the feedback delay has a significant impact on the achievable secrecy performance by reducing the achievable diversity order to two.

In this paper, we deal with the deployment of full-duplex relaying in amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative networks with multiple-antenna terminals. In contrast to previous studies, which focus on the spatial mitigation of the loopback interference (LI) at the relay node, a joint precoding/decoding design that maximizes the end-to-end (e2e) performance is investigated. The proposed precoding incorporates rank-1 zero-forcing (ZF) LI suppression at the relay node and is derived in closed-form by solving appropriate optimization problems. In order to further reduce system complexity, the antenna selection (AS) problem for full-duplex AF cooperative systems is discussed. We investigate different AS schemes to select a single transmit antenna at both the source and the relay, as well as a single receive antenna at both the relay and the destination. To facilitate comparison, exact outage probability expressions and asymptotic approximations of the proposed AS schemes are provided. In order to overcome zerodiversity effects associated with the AS operation, a simple power allocation scheme at the relay node is also investigated and its optimal value is analytically derived. Numerical and simulation results show that the joint ZF-based precoding significantly improves e2e performance, while AS schemes are efficient solutions for scenarios with strict computational constraints. Relay cooperation can enhance coverage, throughput, and reliability of wireless communication systems, thus attracting intense research interest in the past decade. However, most of them focused on half-duplex relay systems, which encounter loss of resource efficiency. With the progress of self-interference cancellation technologies, full-duplex relay systems come into sight. In this paper, outage performances of the primary system and the secondary system in a cognitive full-duplex relay network are analyzed, under the adverse effect of self-interference caused by the signals at the transmitting and receiving antennas of the relay. The full-duplex decode-and-forward relay assists the transmissions of the primary system and the secondary system where there is no direct link between the secondary transmitter and the secondary receiver. Simulation results show that better outage performance of the primary system is achieved compared with the cognitive relay network adopting half-duplex relaying. Moreover, communication of the secondary system is realized on the condition that the secondary transmission link is non-ideal.
