Abstract. New photoelectric observations of the eccentric orbit binary CW Cephei have been carried out in B, V and R colours during the 2000 observing season at TÜBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey) National Observatory. The light curves of the system were analyzed with a nonsynchronous rotation approach using the method of Wilson-Devinney in B, V and R bands, simultaneously. Especially, we used the R band to check for a third light in the solution as distinct from previous studies. But, the third light contribution in the light curves comes out to be almost negligible. In this study, the values of the longitude of periastron (ω) of the system's orbit found in the solutions of the light curves and radial velocity curves were collected and the variation of ω with time was investigated. A new value of the apsidal motion velocity has been obtained asω=0.0582 ± 0.0011 (deg/cycle), corresponding to an apsidal period U=46 ± 1 yr.

The Algol type eclipsing binary KZ Pav has been observed over one complete orbit (0.95 days) with theAustraliaTelescope CompactArray. Contemporaneous optical photometric data from the University of Southern Queensland’s Observatory at Mount Kent were also collected and have been included in this multi-wavelength study.Preliminary indications are that the low levels of emission observed share similarities to those of some RS CVn binaries. The optical data show phase-linked effects which can be related to the mass transfer process of Algols. The possibility that the radio emission may be related to this process is considered.

An algebraic approach originally intended for the heuristic modelling of the maculation effects of chromospherically active stars has been used to model the rotational modulation of Pluto's light. Two dark spots (30.0" r 0.8" and 16.4" ? 1.4" in radius, at longitudes 3.4 F 3.2 and 138.0 ?z 5.2 degrees, and respective latitudes -35" and -16") were found to model the 1982.2 data of Binzel and Mulholland (1983) best. These parameters are in reasonable agreement with the other published models of Pluto's surface for the data, however this model can not be well reconciled with older data sets. A possible solution is dynamic behaviour of the dark features themselves, increasing in radius as perihelion is approached. We stress a minimum in the introduction of ad hoc surface feature hypothesis in this treatment.
