Influencing Factors of Companies’ Behavior for Mitigation: A Discussion within the Context of Emission Trading Scheme

Abstract: China built pilot carbon emission trading schemes in seven regions and established a national carbon trading market in electricity sector in December 2017. This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 570 companies in 29 regions nationwide and found that companies still need to improve mitigation measures regarding fossil fuel combustion, production technology, output adjustment and environmental management. By establishing regression models, influencing factors of carbon emission reduction are identified. P… Show more

“…Furthermore, the perceived uncertainty may be used as justification for delayed corporate responses and may even be reinforced by the companies themselves through political lobbying (Bumpus 2015). • Lack of pressure and incentives can often be attributed to external actors, such as governments and policy makers (e.g., Chen et al 2018;Hrasky 2012). This is the case for Scope 3 emissions in particular, which are often not subject to regulation.…”

“…In particular, carbon emission regulations (e.g., carbon tax policy, carbon trading mechanism, and carbon offset policy) cannot be neglected because government-related policies have been developing rapidly. For example, a carbon trading market for national electricity sectors was established in China in 2017 [21]. The impacts of different carbon regulatory policies have been studied in various optimization problems, such as the biodiesel supply chains manage problem [22], production configuration problem [23], and green supply chain design problem [24].…”

“…The other is the influence of CT policy on the enterprises' market decisions. Chen et al [12] conduct a questionnaire survey of 570 companies in 29 regions nationwide to identify the influencing factors of carbon emission reduction by establishing regression models. Song et al [13] present an optimization model to quantitatively assess carbon reduction strategies at enterprise level in the building sector under CT. Zhu et al [14] study the power generation enterprises' optimization decision support approach for the risk of CT in electric power systems.…”
