Influence of the Zinc Sublayer Method Production and Heat Treatment on the Microhardness of the Composite Ni-Al2O3 Coating Deposited on the 5754 Aluminium Alloy

Abstract: In this study, the effect of zinc interlayer on the adhesion of nickel coatings reinforced with micrometric Al 2 O 3 particles was examined. Nickel coating was applied by electroplating on EN AW -5754 aluminium alloy using Watts bath at a concentration of 150 g/l of nickel sulphate with the addition of 50 g/l of Al 2 O 3 . The influence of zinc intermediate coating deposited in single, double and triple layers on the adhesion of nickel coating to aluminium substrate was also studied. The adhesion was measured … Show more

“…The whole was mixed with a magnetic stirrer at 350 rev/min and with a peristaltic pump at 40 rev/min. Electroless zinc coating was also applied before nickel plating according [10]. All solutions were prepared with analytical grade chemicals and demineralised water with a conductivity not exceeding 5 μs/cm 2 .…”

“…The coatings were produced in a Watts bath of the following chemical composition: NiSO 4 ·7H 2 O 150 g/l, NiCl 2 ·6H 2 O 30 g/l, H 3 BO 3 30 g/l with the addition of saccharin in an amount of 2 g/l. Single layer zinc coating was also applied according [3]. As a reinforcing phase, alumina of submicrometic size was used in amounts of 12.5, 25, 50 and 75 g/l.…”
