This paper emphasized the size-dependent thermo-elastic vibration characteristics of uncertain functionally graded (FG) porous nano-beams by employing the first-order perturbation theory (FOPT) with the finite element method. An isoparametric quadratic beam element having three nodes is used for the finite element analysis of the nano-beams with variation in degree of uncertainty in material properties, geometric configuration, and thermal environment. The power-law model is employed to obtain the effective material properties of the considered beams. The governing equations are presented according to Eringen’s elasticity theory and Reddy’s beam theory using the minimum potential energy. The computed FOPT results for the vibration statistics are assessed with the help of Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and a well agreement is found. Further, results are presented by analyzing the effects of degree of source uncertainty, size-dependent parameter, volume fraction indices, porosity distribution, porosity index, thermal environment, and aspect ratios on the fundamental frequency of the FGM nano-beams. The numerical results revealed the significant influence of thermal environment and porosity on the vibration statistics of the nano-beams and provided guidance for the precise and reliable design of nano-devices for the application in thermal environment.

In this paper, an approach based on the refined plate theory and Airy stress function has been proposed to investigate the vibration and buckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) rectangular plates. The significant feature of the proposed approach is considering only two unknowns in the displacement field in which the contribution due to shear and bending to the total transverse displacement are clarified. Using the extended Hamilton’s principle and defining an Airy stress function corresponding to the compatibility equation, the equations of motion, which do not explicitly include the in-plane displacements, are derived. The accuracy and effectiveness of the current model is shown by comparing the natural frequencies and buckling loads of various FG rectangular plates calculated by the proposed approach with even three-dimensional (3-D) and quasi-3D solutions. Besides, the exact dynamic response of a square FG plate due to a harmonic central force is investigated using modal analysis. This approach is capable of handling quasi-3D models , by selecting proper functions in the displacement field to consider the thickness stretching effect. By doing this, behavior of FG square plates with various coefficient functions are compared with each other. Therefore, through implementing the Airy stress function, the number of variables is reduced, in turn, simplifying the dynamic model. Consequently, it can be used for wide range study of static and dynamic behaviors of FG plates.

In the present paper, thermo‐mechanical stability analysis of geometrically imperfect porous functionally graded plates (FGP) with geometric nonlinearity is presented. The equilibrium, stability, and compatibility equations are derived using Logarithmic structural kinematics in conjunction with the von‐Karman type of geometric nonlinearity. A logarithmic‐based shear‐strain function has been used for the first time for the buckling response of functionally graded material (FGM) plates. Generic imperfection function has been implemented to incorporate the various imperfection modes like sin‐type or global type in the formulation. The effective materials properties of the plates with porosity inclusion have been computed using modified power law. The plate is subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compression as well as combined compression and tension along with thermal loading. An exact expression for the critical buckling load and critical buckling thermal load of geometrically imperfect porous FGM plate for each loading case has been developed. After confirming the excellent accuracy of the current exact solutions, the effect of geometric imperfection, porosity inclusion, and geometric configurations on the nonlinear stability of the FGM plate have been discussed extensively. The results presented in this paper will be used as a benchmark for future research.
