Influence of the ten sessionsof the whole body cryostimulationon aerobic and anaerobic capacity

Abstract: Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of whole body cryostimulation on aerobic and anaerobic capacities. Materials and Methods: To test the hypothesis that whole body cryostimulation improves physical capacity, thirty subjects (fifteen males and fifteen females) undertook two ergocycle trials before and after the ten sessions of cryogenic chamber treatment. To assess baseline aerobic capacity, the progressive cycle ergometer test was applied. This allowed determination of maximal oxy… Show more

“…It is interesting from the practical point of view how to include best cryostimulation in the training cycle, especially as in this study we found no changes on aerobic capacity evaluated with the maximal oxygen uptake (which was only slightly decreasing). Our results confirm the report of Klimek et al [11] which examined the…”

“…Each cryostimulation session lasted 3 min. The duration of each session and the temperature of the cold chamber were similar to our previous studies [6,7,11,21], and similar to the prevalent practice. Glasses, contact lenses and all jewelry were removed before the participants entered the chamber.…”

“…As an example, Lubkowska et al [20], [21] have reported an increase in body's immunity, associated with a decrease in total oxidative status and inflammatory response after repeated WBC sessions (10 to 20 sessions). Klimek et al [23] have also shown an improvement in anaerobic capacity after 10 WBC sessions, principally explained by metabolic changes (i.e. increased activity of anaerobic glycolitic enzymes) and a better tolerance to pain, highlighted by an increase in blood lactate concentration.…”

“…The decrease in MAP was a result of a lowered muscle temperature, which hinders the ability of fast twitch muscles to contract forcefully during short intensive efforts. Klimek et al [34] showed that series of ten whole body treatments in a cryogenic chamber caused body cryostimulation could increase the level of anaerobic power.…”
