Influence of the structure on the regularities of cavitation wear of eutectic coatings

Abstract

We analyze the influence of the structure and the main physicomechanical characteristics of eutectic coatings obtained using concentrated sources of energy on the mechanism and kinetics of their cavitation wear. We establish a correlation between the rate of cavitation wear, the size of the structural components, and the mechanical characteristics of the coating.The process of cavitation is known to include nucleation, growth, and subsequent collapse of vapor cavitation bubbles caused by a local change in pressure [1][2][3]. Cavitation significantly affects wear of members of practically all machines in which liquid serves as the working medium. It was found in [1, 2] that cavitation fracture of structural materials has a mechanical nature. At the same time, one cannot but take into account corrosion processes, the contribution of which to the total wear of equipment under comparatively slight microimpacts is quite significant [4,5]. This testifies that the mechanism of fracture due to cavitation and erosion of metals is very complicated.In the present work, we attempt to investigate the influence of the structure and main physicomechanical characteristics of eutectic coatings obtained with the use of concentrated sources of energy on the mechanism and kinetics of their cavitation wear.
