Influence of the processing parameters on needleless electrospinning from double ring slits spinneret using response surface methodology

Abstract: Needleless electrospinning technology was an effective processing method which can fabricate large scale nanofibers. We first developed a novel double rings slit spinneret to overcome the shortcomings of current needleless electrospinning spinnerets. The solution of the flow rate was controlled accurately by peristaltic control pump. Response surface methodology was adopted to investigate the influence of the processing parameters on the morphology and diameter of nanofibers. The main spinning processing param… Show more

“…Therefore, a new spinneret still needs to be developed and investigated to overcome these problems. In recent years, our research group developed the annular spinneret, reducing solvent volatilization and making use of polymer solution [29,30]. Molnar used a shear-aided annular needleless electrospinning method to generate nanofibers, and the shearing effect could decrease the shear-thinning solution, which made it easy to form jet initiation [31].…”

“…Recently, RSM has been used to optimize the diameter of electrospun nanofibres made of various polymers, such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) [27], polyacrylonitrile (PAN) [28], polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) [29], polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) [30], polyamide 6 (PA 6) [31], etc. [32][33][34].…”

“…Some spinnerets have been developed with a low solvent evaporation rate and a low electricity consumption. For instance, a double‐ring slit with the significant advantages of minimizing the solvent evaporation rate and improved solution utilization ratio was used by Wei et al ., but this spinneret required a higher applied voltage (50–70 kV). A metal plucked string spinneret was used to generate multiple jet with comparatively low electric voltage (25 kV) with a narrow diameter distribution range .…”
