Influence of the Mixtures of Vegetable Oil and Vitamin E over the Microstructure and Rheology of Organogels

Abstract: Candelilla wax (CW) and 12-hydroxystearic acid (12HSA) are classic solid-fiber-matrix organogelators. Despite the high number of studies using those ingredients in oily systems, there is scarce literature using a mixture of oil and antioxidants. Vitamin E (VE) is an important candidate for its lipophilicity and several applications on pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food industries. In this work, we investigated the influences of mixtures between vegetable oil (VO) and VE on the microstructures and rheological … Show more

“…The obtained data are shown in Figure 1C (black-filled circles), and the obtained results are comparable to those previously reported for ordered mesoporous silica. 42–44 It is interesting to note that both curves, with and without peptide, are very similar.…”

“…The obtained data are shown in Figure 1C (black-filled circles), and the obtained results are comparable to those previously reported for ordered mesoporous silica. [42][43][44] It is interesting to note that both curves, with and without peptide, are very similar. To describe their structure and eventual differences, we proceeded with the data analysis using the model fully detailed by Losito et al 2021a.…”

“…This can isolate the bioactive substance from degradation agents such as oxygen, moisture, and light, reducing its exposure to these factors and thus creating a physical and diffusion protection barrier. This structure is also favored by the polar minority components and unsaponifiable compounds of the unrefined Amazonian oils [ 12 , 60 ], opening the doors to an important area of research, mainly driven by the possible use of these functional organogels as photo protectors of compounds that function as key bioactive substances (Vitamin A, Vitamin E and antioxidant compounds). Also, they could be a possible vehicle to transport pharmaceutical or dermo-cosmetic active ingredients, using the controlled release mechanism, which is based on the gel’s ability to regulate the diffusion of the active substance (bioactive) from its three-dimensional matrix into the surrounding environment.…”

“…In bigels containing aqueous Quercus resinosa polyphenol extracts, an increase in polyphenol concentration increased the consistency index of the bigel [ 30 ]. Similarly, the addition of vitamin E had a sigmoidal, dose-dependent positive impact on the gel strength and phase transition temperature of a 12-hydroxystearic acid/candelilla wax organogel [ 31 ].…”
