Influence of the lining on the quality of precision alloys being smelted

OF UDC 666.762.11 + 666.762.32] : [669.15' 24:669.15 r 25Induction melting is one of the principal methods of maMng precision alloys. The technieoeconomic performances of melting, including the quality of the metal being melted, are largely determined by the character of the reaction of the melt with the refractory lining.The literature gives virtually no information on the character of the reaction of iron--nickel and iron-cobalt alloys with refractories, or on the influence of the lining on alloy quality. In this connection we have investigated melting of alloys 52N and 49KF2 (Table 1).Experimental meltings were performed in a 150-kg OKB-736 vacuum induction furnace. The vacuum in the furnace during refining of the metal was about 1.33 Pa; inleakage into the cold furnace without a crucible did not exceed the norm.
