“…We observed the lowest levels of this molecule which may be minimizing an oxidative stress situation. Uric acid synthesis in ammoniotelic organisms for use as an antioxidant has been reported for insects (Hermes-Lima and Zenteno-Savín 2002) and for tadpoles ( de Lima Coltro et al 2017). This is the first evidence of uric acid usage as an antioxidant molecule in crayfish.…”

“…The observed decreases in corticosterone may reflect a disruption in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis response, and an inability to respond to an acute stressor (Cyr and Romero 2009). Decreased corticosterone levels were observed in American bullfrog (R. catesbeiana) tadpoles exposed to 0.4 µg/L of the herbicide Facet ® (active ingredient quinclorac) for 1 wk, indicating a possible decreased ability to respond to environmental stressors (de Lima Coltro et al 2017). Gabor et al (2018) found that Cuban tree frogs (Osteopilus septentrionalis) treated with metyrapone, a corticosterone inhibitor, had reduced tolerance to a fungal pathogen (B. dendrobatidis), but only before metamorphosis.…”
