Influence of the extraction mode on the yield of hyperoside, vitexin and vitexin‐2′′‐O‐rhamnoside from Crataegus monogyna Jacq. (hawthorn)

Abstract: A microwave protocol combined with isocratic HPLC analysis is proposed for the rapid screening of plant materials collected in different environmental conditions in order to evaluate the productivity of Crataegus monogyna Jacq. and to find out the best ecological conditions to cultivate hawthorn in Northern Italy.

“…Hence, compounds interacting with both the ES and the PAS of AChE could not only alleviate cognitive deficits associated with cholinergic neuron depletion but also inhibit Ab peptide aggregation. These so-called bivalent ligands are now being developed as a new avenue of AD therapeutic approach (Gaggeri et al, 2010(Gaggeri et al, , 2011Khan et al, 2011;Langjae et al, 2007;Martino et al, 2006Martino et al, , 2008Nisar et al, 2011). The PAS varies among AChEs and that from Torpedo californica, for example, consists of aromatic and carboxylic acid residues, Asp72, Tyr70, Tyr121, Trp279 and Phe290 (Szegletes et al, 1998).…”

“…This choice is in accordance with the principles of green chemistry and in line with the European directives for products for human use. The ethanolic extracts (EE) were prepared by dynamic maceration (ME) overnight and treated with vegetal charcoal, as previously reported in the literature (Iqbal et al, 2005;Martino et al, 2008;Uddin et al, 2012). After the removal of solvent, this procedure led to well-dried yellow solid.…”

“…Recent literature has evidenced that Marrubium vulgare shows several in vivo and in vitro activities including antihypertensive, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, effects on respiratory system, digestive stimulant, antiasthmatic, hypolipidemic, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. Within this context, and as a part of our current research in this field, in the present contribution we focused on M. vulgare L. (white/common horehound), an annual herbaceous plant belonging to Lamiaceae family, native to Eurasia and northern Africa zones . Due to its biological activities, the European Medicines Agency has published a monograph for M. vulgare in which all the traditional, non‐clinical and clinical data are reported .…”
