Influence of the energy regeneration unit on pressure characteristics for a proportional relief valve

Abstract: Overflow loss through the relief valves is universal in hydraulic systems. To explore the feasibility to regenerate the overflow loss, an energy regeneration unit is connected to the outlet of the proportional pilot relief valve which can reduce the pressure difference and the overflow loss accordingly. The added energy regeneration unit may affect the performance of the proportional pilot relief valve. The mathematical model of the proportional pilot relief valve with the energy regeneration unit is establish… Show more

“…The bi-directional movement of the spool can be achieved controlling the on/off of the two switching valves. Lin TL et al [130,131] proposed a pilot-operated proportional pressure-reducing valve. Assume that the chambers at both ends of the main spool are A and B.…”

“…To reduce the energy loss of the relief valve, a hydraulic energy regeneration unit (HERU) is connected to the outlet of the relief valve, which can increase the outlet pressure of the relief valve and thus reduce the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet [18], as shown in Figure 1. As there are many types of relief valves, the PRV is chosen as an example in this paper.…”

“…In systems with fixed displacement pumps controlled by throttle methods, the predominant approach is to limit the operation of the safety valve (where serial throttle control is used). The introduction of proportionally controlled valves (a proportional relief valve or a proportional spool valve) can also result in a reduction in energy consumption by the hydrostatic system, particularly in a transient state [14,15].…”
