Adsorption ability, stability and corrosion inhibition of phoenix dactylifera (date palm) seed extract (PDSE) as a natural corrosion inhibitor were studied on mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl solution after different exposure times. Linear polarization resistance (LPR), potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques were utilized to define the inhibiting performance of the extract on the rate of corrosion. The stability of the organic film formed over the metal surface was investigated with the help of chronoamperometry (CA) technique. The MS surface was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and contact angle measurements. Surface charge of the metal after exposing to the solution was determined by measuring the potential of zero charge (PZC) using the EIS technique and an adsorption mechanism was proposed. The results of the electrochemical measurements showed that PDSE reduces sufficiently the rate of MS corrosion. The SEM studies showed that the inhibitor strictly attached to the metal surface and form a protective film over the metal surface. The average inhibition efficiency determined from LPR, EIS and PP techniques was found to be 97.3%, which is quite efficient for the practical applications.

Infrastructures in coastal area are mostly made of metal which is susceptible to corrosion due to direct contact with the seawater. The Seawater greatly affects the corrosion rate of metals because it contains chloride ions which can penetrate metal surface. The process of corrosion can be inhibited or slowed by decreasing the corrosion rate in one way, namely the addition of corrosion inhibitors derived from natural materials containing tannin compounds. This study proposed organic corrosion inhibitors which were derived from natural material extracts (coffee leaves and catappa leaves), the effect of time variations on the efficiency of organic inhibitors was investigated, and the efficiency of each inhibitor organic was compared. The corrosion rate with and without inhibitors was analysed by using the method of weight loss. The results showed that the corrosion rate can be reduced by adding the natural ingredients extract. The addition of 2% concentration coffee leaves extract resulted in the lowest corrosion rate with the addition of 0.00226 mmpy. The addition of catappa leaves extract concentration as much as 2% yield the lowest corrosion rate with the addition of 0.0012 mmpy. The highest efficiency of inhibition system was obtained by using 2% catappa leaves extract at 14 days soaking time at 69.23%, and the lowest by using 1% coffee leaves extract.

Taraxacum officinale extract (toe) has been tested for preventing the corrosion of cooling systems in desalination plants. The inhibition of corrosion effects has been characterized by chemical and electrochemical methods (Mass loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) and surface observations. tests on cooling systems were carried out in seawater environment. the presence of toe in the re-circulation loop decreases the corrosion of carbon steel by adsorption of toe compounds on the surface of metal pipes. the optimum toe concentration was reached at 400 mg L −1 and the inhibition efficiency was higher than 94%. TOE allowed increasing the energy barrier of the corrosion process. SEM, FT-IR and UV spectra observations confirmed that TOE prevents corrosion attacks at the surface of the pipes.
