In this research, steel plate-fiber concrete composite jackets (SPFCJ) was used to strengthen the RC beams. The accuracy of the analysis method was evaluated by modeling RC beams fabricated in the laboratory, and a good agreement was observed. Variables in the finite element method (FEM) analysis include the strength class of concrete used in the main beam (15,20, and 25 MPa), the beam length (1.4 and 2.8 m), the type of jackets (RC jacket, SPFCJ, and CFRP sheet), and jacket thickness (40, 60 and 80 mm). SPFCJ is effective for all three concrete grades and increased the energy absorption capacity by 1.88, 2.07, and 2.25 times, respectively. The bearing capacity of the strengthened beam with 60 mm composite jackets increased by 79 and 20% more than the values corresponding to jackets with 40 and 80 mm thickness. The jacket thickness parameter significantly influences the response of strengthened beams with the proposed composite jackets. Depending on the dimensions and geometric characteristics of the beam, the appropriate thickness for the jacket should be considered, and increasing the thickness can not always improve the beam bearing capacity.

Fibers have been considered an effective material that was used to improve the concrete's weak properties, namely its tensile strength, ductility, and crack resistance. Thus, the current study highlights two major objective, the former is the fibers shapes and types on the mechanical properties of the fresh and hardened concrete while the latter explores the impact of the fiber contents on the concrete mechanical properties developments. To achieve these targets six types of fibers (five of them made of steel and the last was polyolefin fibers) with various shapes are utilized. The tests were carried out to investigate the fibers shape and material contribution in the concrete mix properties improvement. The samples were subjected to destructive and non-destructive tests such as workability, compression, bending, and splitting. The non-destructive tests include ultrasonic pulse velocities and the Schmidt Hammer test. Three kinds of fibers (two of steel and one of polyolefin fiber) are used with variable content ratios of 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, and 1.5% to study the fiber content effect. Generally, the workability of fresh concrete has a reverse relationship with fiber presence and fiber content ratios. The compressive capacity, splitting and flexural strength has a direct proportion with fibers contents. The hooked steel fibers appeared the best results in terms of shape comparison. This paper explores the possibility of the partial replacement of the longitudinal reinforcement in reinforced concrete (RC) beams with recycled steel fibres (RSF). Testing was focused on the contribution of two volume ratios of the RSF—0.5%, 1.0%. Basic compression and flexural tensile tests were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the fibres following current standards. Additionally, the full-scale beams with and without conventional reinforcement were subjected to four-point bending tests. The results indicate that RSF improved the load-bearing capacity of the RC beams. Cooperation of RSF with the steel bars in carrying loads was proved. Findings from the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) revealed no impact on the cracking pattern of the RC beams.
