Influence of soybean management decisions on the subsequent rice crop's response to nitrogen

Abstract: Core Ideas 1. Fertilizer-N rate recommendations do not consider management of the previous crop. 2. Manipulation of the previous soybean crop affects the residue mineralization rate. 3. Utilizing residual-N promotes increased grain yield and reduced fertilizer-N cost. 4. Results differed by soil texture, the rotational N-benefits were diluted in clay soil.
