Uvod. Inflamacija gingive je veoma česta u detinjstvu i pubertetu. Cilj istraživanja bio je odrediti indekse gingive i vrednosti 17β estradiola u pljuvački i serumu i njegov uticaj na zdravlje gingive kod tinejdžerki. Pacijenti i metode. Studija je obuhvatila 30 devojčica (starosti od 11 do 14 godina) sa inflamacijom gingive i 30 devojčica kontrolne grupe koje nemaju inflamaciju gingive. Stepen zdravlja gingive je procenjen kliničkim merenjem indeksa gingive. Koncentracija 17β estradiola u serumu i pljuvački određena je DRG Estradiol ELISA (EIA-2693) i DRG Salivary Estradiol ELISA (SLV-4188) metodom. Rezultati. Vrednosti indeksa gingive jasno ukazuju na prisustvo inflamacije gingive. Analiza vrednosti nivoa estrogena u serumu i pljuvački ukazuju na pozitivnu korelaciju indeksa, posebno ističući uticaj 17β estradiola na inflamaciju i krvarenje gingive. Zaključak. Dobijene vrednosti koncentracije hormona u serumu i pljuvački pokazuju u obe grupe njegov potencijalni uticaj na zdravlje gingive, što ističe ulogu stomatologa u preventivi i terapiji parodontopatije u pubertetu. Conclusion.The obtained values of the hormone concentrations in serum and saliva, in both groups, suggest their potential impact on the gingival health. This emphasizes the role of dentists in preventive and treatment modalities in patients during the period of puberty.

Periodontitis and gingivitis, a prevalent oral diseases, have been connected to several systemic health changes. The aim of this investigation was to review the effects of menopause on periodontal tissue. Epidemiologic studies have identified a number of risk factors and risk indicators for periodontal attachment loss, including demographic, socioeconomic, behavioural, genetic, and systemic factors. Menopause has also been associated with destructive periodontal disease in older women. The homeostasis of the periodontium involves complex multifactorial relationships. Oestrogen and progesterone are responsible for physiological changes in women at specific phases of their life. Menopause is associated with significant adverse changes in the orofacial complex.

Evaluation of the knowledge of pregnant women about the relationship between oral diseases and pregnancy complications ResumoIntrodução: Uma infecção crônica persistente de baixa intensidade na gestante, como a doença periodontal (DP), pode comprometer a unidade materno-fetal, já que o processo infeccioso induz a liberação de mediadores químicos envolvidos no processo de prematuridade. Objetivo: Avaliar o conhecimento das gestantes quanto à relação entre alterações bucais e intercorrências gestacionais. Método: Foi realizado um estudo epidemiológico de corte transversal, com 104 gestantes cadastradas no Sistema de Informação da Atenção Básica (SIAB), em Estratégias de Saúde da Família (ESF), empregando-se um questionário estruturado. Os dados foram registrados no SPSS e analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e inferencial, considerando-se um nível de significância de 5%. Resultado: A maioria das gestantes (64,4%) era doméstica, (48,1%) com idade entre 24 a 34 anos, (55,8%) apresentava o 2º grau completo e incompleto e (49%) era primípara. Dentre as participantes, 76% desconheciam a relação entre doença bucal, prematuridade e nascimento de bebês de baixo peso. Verificou-se associação estatisticamente significativa entre: escolaridade e o conhecimento sobre o pré-natal odontológico (p = 0,012), ao evidenciar que 90,4% ignoraram a existência desta atividade e 65,4% nunca haviam recebido informações sobre os cuidados de higiene bucal do bebê (p=0,003). Conclusão: A maioria das gestantes desconhecia a relação da DP com a prematuridade e apresentou carência de informações sobre os cuidados de higiene bucal materna e do bebê, evidenciando a necessidade de uma maior integração entre o Cirurgião-Dentista e os demais profissionais da atenção básica na propagação dos cuidados com a saúde bucal das gestantes para reduzir a relação da DP com as intercorrências gestacionais.Descritores: Gravidez; periodontite; trabalho de parto prematuro; atenção primária à saúde.
